LASG to release report on tuition on June 9By Gboyega Akinsanmi and Akinwale Akintunde About 10 students of Lagos State University (LASU) have been arrested and subsequently charged before a Magistrate Court in Ikeja for allegedly staging a protest, which caused protracted traffic congestion on Tuesday. The President of the LASU Students Union Government, Mr. Nurudeen Yusuf, confirmed their arrest yesterday, saying security operatives of the Lagos State Police Command apprehended the students after the peaceful protest.The arrested students include Olamide Bolarinwa, 23; Oludare Olayinka, 18; Victoria Oni, 18; Timilehin Fatukasi, 19; Babatunde Bolarinwa, 24; Taiwo Ajayi, 24; Olatimihan Taiwo, 20, and Segun Akani, 27.The accused were charged with a one-count charge for breach of public peace. The single, which is primarily a call for peace and unity, is timely especially after the abduction of the over 200 girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State, by the Boko Haram sect over 50 days ago. There has been global outrage against the abduction just as many countries have joined Nigeria both in the rescue operation to free the abducted girls and also tackle terrorism in the sub-region. No fewer than 100 persons are believed to have been killed in Borno State following Tuesday's attack by the terrorist group Boko Haram on four border communities with Cameroun. The attack, it was learnt, was a retaliatory one on the villages of Attagara, Ngoshe, Agapalawa and Aganjara inGwoza Local Government Area of the troubled state. A resident of Maiduguri, who lost his brother in the attack, told journalists on the condition of anonymity that the armed men dressed in military camouflage drove into the communities in all-terrain vehicles and motorbikes.
