Oyo Declares Thursday Public Holiday

By Adebayo Waheed Oyo State government has declared Thursday, 21st September, 2017 as public holiday to mark the Islamic New Year,1439. The Secretary to the Government, Alhaji Olalekan Alli made the declaration in a statement made available to Media. The SSG explained that the holiday was to commemorate the Islamic New Year,1439 AH (After Hijrah). He stated  that Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi enjoined all and sundry  in the state to use the occasion to pray for the peace, unity and sustainability of the state in particular and the country in general.

The rapper condemned Mr. Eazi for his comment on the Ghana-Nigeria music fusion and he blasted Davido for disrespecting one of the heroes of the Nigerian entertainment industry, Mr. Dele Momodu. EU-Nigeria trade hits 19.9 billion Euros

Multilateral trade between Nigeria and European Union (EU) member states stood at 19.9 billion Euros in 2016, Fillippo Amato, the Union’s Head of Trade and Economic Sector, said yesterday. According to him, the EU remains the top destination for oil and non-oil exports from Nigeria “Despite the significant effect of recession on Nigeria’s trade, EU-Nigeria trade remains strong, standing at 19.9 billion Euros in 2016. The EU official said the success of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) launched by Nigeria in February depended on active private sector participation. “On the other hand, creating jobs that will stimulate the economy and provide sustainable employment, particularly for young people, is crucial both for the present and future of Nigeria,’’ the envoy said. REC: Fayose, APC aspirants risk sanction for billboards

Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, his deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, and some All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants risk getting penalised for allegedly campaigning ahead of the time stipulated by law for the 2018 election. The new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. AbdulGaniy Olayinka Raji, addressed reporters yesterday in his office in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital. He spoke after holding a stakeholders’ meeting with leaders of political parties under the auspices of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC). The REC also said about 221,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) had not been collected by eligible voters in the state. Raji said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was empowered by law to prosecute politicians who engaged in any form of “early campaign” before the time allowed by law. Ibadan 21 obas: Olubadan sues Ajimobi, 23 others

The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has sued Governor Abiola Ajimobi and 23 others for crowning 21 kings in Ibadan. The mass coronation happened on August 27. Also joined in the suit are: the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, the eight high chiefs who were elevated to kings as well as the baales who were conferred with kingship status. Besides the monarch’s suit, former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, Abdul Jelil Karimu, among others, have also challenged the legality of the coronation in court. In the suit, which was filed at the High Court of Justice of Oyo State and dated September 19, the Olubadan is claiming that the governor violated the Chiefs Laws Cap 28 and that Ajimobi does not possess the power and authority to confer anybody the right to wear a beaded crown and coronet. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday declared the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) group led by the embattled Nnamdi Kanu a terrorist organisation. The court while delivering its ruling on an ex-parte application filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) on behalf of the federal government, also proscribed the group and restrained all members of the public from promoting or participating in the activities of the group.

EFCC arrests Record Label Owner Over Internet and Tax Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission has arrested a suspected Internet fraudster, Ake Oluseun, for tax fraud. The 30-year-old suspect, a graduate of Computer and Information Science, who owns Canbit Music, Canbit Resources (Nig.) Limited, Istartup Enterprise and Volta Company, allegedly sent an email to an employee of an American company requesting for the W-2s of the staff.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibeno, host Local Government Area of ExxonMobil in Akwa Ibom State has suffered terrible setback ahead of December 2 LG elections as the PDP on Wednesday received mammoth crowd of decampees from the party. Nigerian Journalist Amina Yuguda wins BBC World News Komla Dumor award

Amina Yuguda a Popular BBC Nigerian journalist has won the third BBC World News Komla Dumor Award. Yuguda is a news presenter on local network Gotel Television, where she has reported on high-profile news stories, including the Boko Haram insurgency. She will start a three-month placement at the BBC in London in September. The award was created to honour Komla Dumor, a presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41 in 2014. Ms Yuguda said her win was a "huge honour". "I was overwhelmed with joy. Storytellers have always had an important role in Africa... this is what defines us. Today journalists are taking on that responsibility." She impressed the panel with her story-telling and her ability to convey complex ideas in a way that resonates with a wide audience.
