19-year-old man arrested in fatal shooting of a mum who boasted about her financial success on Facebook
A man was arrested on Saturday in connection with the fatal shooting of a Florida mother who gushed about her financial success on Facebook hours before her death.
Suspect Joevan Joseph, 19, has been charged with first-degree murder in the June 29 killing of 33-year-old Makeva Jenkins, a mother of three and entrepreneur.
Joseph said he "didn’t do it" when asked about Jenkins death as he was being escorted in handcuffs from Palm Beach County jail to a police cruiser. A judge denied Joseph bond on Sunday, according to Fox News.
Jenkins, who founded The Prime Enterprise Group dedicated to helping entrepreneurs and small business owners, wrote in her last Facebook post that she was in "awe of how far" she’s come in her life and career. She talked about how she overcame homelessness to making six figures in two years.
Jenkins wrote in the post: "No matter what the road looked like I followed my heart and stuck with it growing my business."
She concluded: "Anyone can do it. It takes determination and consistency."
Hours after she published the post, a masked intruder entered her upscale Lake Worth home at about 2 a.m. A fight broke out between the suspect and Jenkins and she was fatally shot. The suspect then fled the home in one of the family’s cars. Jenkins was taken to a hospital where she died from her wounds.
The victim's grandmother said that Jenkins' husband, brother and two young kids were in the home at the time the intruder came. Her oldest child was with her father in Tampa at the time.
A possible motive for her death has not been released but her family believes her social media posts showing off her success may have made her a target.
The family doesn't understand why anyone would have killed Jenkins.
"Everybody loved her," a relative said in shock.
